New year
brings new leadership to
charter school for abused, neglected children
July 12, 2005
Austin - Longtime Central Texas educator Bruce Rockstroh
has been named Educational Director of Trinity Charter School,
which has campuses at each of the four Texas childrens residential
treatment centers owned and operated by Lutheran Social Services:
New Life at Canyon Lake, Bokenkamp at Corpus Christi, Krause at
Katy and Nelson at Denton.
Rockstroh is responsible for the
education of more than 400 emotionally disturbed children.
The charter school system, which
begins its second school year in August, allows educators and
therapists to develop curriculum to address the needs of the emotionally
and behaviorally disturbed students at the centers. Because the
children come from homes where education was not a priority and
their lives are recently disrupted while in the child welfare
system, they are often two to three grade levels behind when they
are admitted to the centers. Trinity Charter Schools goal
is to help the children reach grade level so they can succeed
academically after being discharged.
I hope to inspire the faculty
and staff to find new ways to help students learn and grow,
said Rockstroh. Together, we can create dynamic, caring
schools that extend learning well beyond the traditional school
day and include a holistic approach to education.
Rockstroh earned a bachelors
degree in sociology from Texas Lutheran University and a masters
degree in educational administration from the University of Texas
at San Antonio. He is a lifelong Lutheran, attended Wartburg Seminary
and has worked in several church positions, including Director
at Camp Chrysalis. Rockstroh brings 15 years of experience as
a teacher and administrator to Trinity Charter School.
